Due 11-11-09 DEADLINE
Ok so im reading that book we gave up in class... DEADLINE. i'm not sure why we gave this book up because it is a good book. i read farther than the other classes had already (in 1 day), and i'm on chapter 8. i started over from the beginning cuz i didnt remember it that much.
SUMAMRY
i'll give you a background cuz if i didnt remember it much im sure you didnt either. So...
Ben Wolf: Diagnosed with some disease where he wouldnt survive a year without treatment...
Refused treatment, says he felt he was going to die early anyways
Was an all-star track runner, switched to football for last year of life (130 puounds, really skinny)
Is not telling his parents about the disease
Sees a therapist, dreams about Hey-Soos
Loves Dallas Suzuki, have an intimate relationship (if you know what i mean if you have read this)
Tries to learn as much truth as he can in his last time of his life, which turns into correecting teachers and mouthing back
Cody Wolf: Ben's younger oldeer brother (an inside joke between them)
Amazing football player
Really depends on Ben
Dad and Mom Wolf: NOt a huge part in the book, mom is drunk drugee, etc.
Rudy McCoy: TOwn drunk
Ex-priest
Reads books alot
Coach: Football coach
Girlfriend died
Family friend of WOlfs
Marla Dawson: Therapist
Paid $150 a day
Talks with Ben about everything
Doctor: Diagnosed ben
wants to do everyting he can
Hey-Soos: Imaginary person (i think) in dreams of Ben's
Gives ben advice like a therapist would
We're not quite sure who he is but he was once alive and will be again
Kinda like spanish jesus
wears robe and sandals and cloak
Sorry for the long summary, but those are the main characters and the ones that i may mention and now you kinda know the backgroound.
REFLECTION
I think that it's really sad that BEn would just accept his fate, and that he is going to die, just when life is getting great. i'm so tempted to skip to the end and see if he does die. it cant happen! in the story he says that he has never imagined himself growing up, and that he just is ok with dieing. marla says he is one extrordanary kid cuz shes never met a kid who would refuse treatment and not tell his family. if i were him i would have told my parents right away, and had them with me. I also would have excepted treatment. i love my friends and family, and i couldnt just give up on life. i have so much longer to live and i want to live it out without rushing it. when i think of him accepting this, i just think his life might not have been that great in the first place.
Another thing i think is that Hey-Soos is really him, dead, or him from the future when he is dead. i thnk he has come back to help him deal with it or sonething. if you think tat is to unrealisitc, it may just be that it is his concience speaking to him. Maybe it is just his imagination, making it up so he feels more sure about himself or restrained. in one part of the book he says "I know everyone you know.
maybe that is cuz he is him or his concience. i dont htink it is Jesus even though he is Christian. i'm not sure why, but i thiunk Jesus woudl want his name pronounced right.
Poor Cody is going to be so suprised when he dies. I mean, thats what the book points to him now, him dying, so i'm gunna expect that now when i reflect. the part right before i stopped reading says "he was counting on me next year. i mean, no coach is gpoing to let me havbe anything to do with their football team, but Codyt leans on me.. just having me around . .. ." eirlier in one of the passages it says that "Cody wil be one pissed quarterback when he figures out how long i've known." Poor Cody, it might as well ruin his career. I just dont htink that Ben is making the right choice, but sometimes the right choice isnt the easier one. his is easier to him now, just to accept death. i think that he will end up changing his life, wanting his life to be good for as long as possible, not waiting and witing for the given time to live to end.
this book is sad and raw, but not as much sa the one for lit skills CLASS, the actual group one

BLog 8??? Maybe... DUE THE 4th
Lock and Key, by Sarah Dessen, is a good book so far. i am only on page 50 though. so right now, this girl named Ruby is put in her sister (Cora)'s cuztody because her mom left. who knows where... Cora is the perfect, rich one who is nice, but 10 years ago, totally walked out of ruby and her mom's life. i think it's because she was so horrified by their lifestyly (move, not pay rent, use false names and addresses, full of lying). Now, in her cuztody after not seeing her for 10 years, it is so neat and ruby just wants to leave. she has a really strong sense of freedom, and she wants it now. Ruby is now being forced to go to the preppiest school (after going to a trailer home school), and she is really not happy. this is where i left off
I think that for some reason, Ruby's feelings of wanting freedom, and wanting out, are justified. she hasnt known her sister and now she has to live with her and her rich husband, who is trying to get everything right with her. she had been living on her own for a month or so, and she was totally fine. she was warm, had water, and there were only a couple dishes in the sink cuz the sink water pipe broke. so what? Also, as she says, the law says you are not a minor at 19, and she will be that in a couple of months. she had all these plans of what to do when she's 19. SHE EVEN HAD A JOB! i mean, just give her back her freedom people!
I also think that Cora's house would be kinda a shock, seeing your sister after 10 years, and living in a poor mess, and comin to this rich extravagant house, and the owners are public defenders and the OWNER of a HUGE COLLEGE WEBSITE! he donated a whole soccer team to a prep school! that would be such a change in lifestyle, i think i wouldnt like it cuz ive been so used to the one before. at first, she barely got her own room, and now she has her own bathroom and balcony?!?!?! thats taking drastic measures there girl! i just think that the husband of cora(Jamie), should have let her take it all in and accept it before he took her to the prep school to start the day after she arrives. that is really a change and i dont think it is the greatest.
i hope that ruby adjusts well soon in the book, like, i dont want her trying to escape every chapter. she was already caught once. i hope the people at the prep school are not all elitist and mean like ruby seems to think they are. if they are, it would be all wrong for her, adn it really wouldnt make anyone happpy.
if you've read this book, dont tell me what happens in your coments... thanks

P.S. i commented on Becca's blog again cuz its short and its almost 11:00 tonite... im tired!
